Google Announces New Features To Enhance Users’ Shopping Experience

Google announces a new way AI is transforming shoppers’ in-store and local shopping experiences.

Have you seen Google’s latest announcement?

Google announced today a new way AI is transforming shoppers’ in-store and local shopping experiences. This announcement follows last month's Google Shopping update.

You can read more about it here: New ways to holiday shop with Google Lens, Maps and more

If you don’t have time to read the article, here are 3 key updates that are relevant if you’re a retailer:

  1. Google Lens: Shoppers can now use it to search for products visually, get detailed information, check reviews, and confirm local store
  2. Google Maps: It now offers product search. Users can check which nearby stores have stock availability of a specific product and their prices.
  3. Holiday Shopping Guides: Google generates gift guides, recommendations, and deal alerts based on users' preferences and browsing history.

What do these changes mean to retailers?

For High Street Shops:

  • Potential Increased Foot Traffic: The new Google Maps product search will let users find specific items in nearby stores, potentially driving more customers to physical locations.
  • Give a competitive edge to retailers that use Google Shopping. If they ensure accurate stock levels and good reviews, their products will appear on Google search and attract more foot traffic from users using Google Lens.
  • Increase pressure on pricing if stores near each other sell the same product.

For Online Shops:

  • Increased competition: Ordinarily, product availability was only shown on Google Shopping, but now they will also show on Google Maps, which makes it easy to compare prices and availability across multiple retailers using these tools.
  • Increased Focus on Reviews: As product reviews are more accessible through these new features, maintaining positive customer feedback is even more important for online retailers.

Don't sell online?
